Two tickets, one price, and names that do not explain themselves
On the official ticketing site, read in October 2026, two tickets for individual visitors sit next to each other at €18: "24h – COLOSSEUM, ROMAN FORUM, PALATINE" and "24H ONLY ARENA". The first lists admission to the Colosseum at the booked time. The second lists one admission to the
arena floor only, at the booked time, for a duration of 20 minutes.
| What the official listing says | 24h – Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine | 24H Only Arena |
| 💶 Price | €18 | €18 |
| 🏛️ Inside the Colosseum | Admission at the booked time | Arena floor only, 20 minutes at the booked time |
| 🌿 Roman Forum and Palatine | One admission | One admission |
| ✨ SUPER sites | Not listed; sold as a €4 supplement | Included |
| 🖼️ Exhibitions | Colosseum and Forum-Palatine | Forum-Palatine only |
Read on the official ticketing site on October 9, 2026. Prices and inclusions change.
Travelers mostly call the second one the arena-only ticket. The names are close enough that people read the two as a small and a large version of the same thing. In the corpus, 23 different travelers asked on Reddit and YouTube what the arena ticket was, how it differed from the standard one, or whether to combine it with another ticket.
“It seems that the 24H ONLY ARENA tickets are very limited in both the amount of time you can spend in the Colosseum and what you can actually see, however I didn't see that mentioned on the actual ticket info.”
— Reddit, April 2025
“If you get a 24 hour arena ticket do you get access to levels 1 and 2 aswell?”
— YouTube comment, July 2025
That Reddit traveler emailed the Colosseum help desk and posted the reply: the arena ticket gives access to the arena floor but not to the first and second levels, entry is from the Sperone Stern entrance, the visit inside lasts about 20 to 30 minutes, and it is one-way. We are relaying a reply a visitor received in April 2025, not a rule we confirmed ourselves.
The trade-off: the standard ticket gives you the building and keeps you off the floor; the arena ticket gives you the floor and keeps you out of the building. At the same price, neither is the upgrade of the other.
The 20 minutes are on the official listing. What that feels like is in the accounts of people who bought it without understanding it. Two of the eight travelers who describe using the ticket say plainly that it was not what they expected.
“It’s 20 minutes of standing on a platform to look at the lower part of the Colosseum.”
— TripAdvisor, 2 stars, August 2024
“We were given just a 20 min window to view a tiny section. We wrongly assumed we could walk around the entire arena and were strictly stopped.”
— Reddit, August 2024
The second traveler did not leave it there. When the 20 minutes were up, around 4:30 pm, they went to the ticket booth, found a short line, and bought standard tickets at the same price. That is one account from one August afternoon, and same-day availability is never something to plan on, but it shows the two tickets doing two different jobs on the same day.
The trade-off: the arena floor is the view the standard ticket cannot give you, and it is also the smallest part of the monument you can pay to enter. If the arena ticket is the only one left, you are buying a viewpoint, not a visit.
The people who were glad they bought it
The other accounts read differently, and for consistent reasons: a separate entrance, a short stay, and less walking in the heat.
“Unlike the madhouse at the west end where the "regular" entry is, there was a very short line at the east entrance, which is only used by this ticket type.”
— Reddit, June 2025
“I purchased the Arena 24 hour ticket floor only, glad we did. It was very warm in July and to be honest walking 60-90 minutes was not something we wanted to take on.”
— YouTube comment, September 2025
A third traveler bought it by mistake, thinking it was the standard ticket with a shorter validity, and still reported no line at the entrance and few people on the floor.
On how strictly the 20 minutes are held, the accounts disagree. The June 2025 report says the writer stayed longer and saw nobody enforcing the limit; the August 2024 one says they were strictly stopped. The same split appears on whether an arena ticket holder can continue into the rest of the building: the help desk reply says no, and two travelers write that they saw no check that would have stopped it. We would not plan a visit around either version.
The trade-off: a short line and a short visit are the same feature. What makes the arena ticket easy on a hot afternoon is exactly what makes it thin for a first visit.
The part buyers miss: the Forum and the SUPER sites
Read the two listings past the first line and the difference changes shape. Both include one admission to the
Roman Forum and Palatine archaeological area. Only the arena ticket lists entry to the SUPER sites, a set of separately gated sites inside that area. For holders of the 24h Colosseum ticket, the official site sells that access separately as a €4 supplement.
So the arena ticket is closer to a Forum, Palatine and SUPER sites ticket with 20 minutes on the arena floor attached than to a reduced Colosseum ticket. One five-star reviewer on Google Maps, writing in Spanish, describes exactly that use: they bought it, and spent most of their time on the Palatine and in the Forum.
Few of the 23 travelers raised it. The question they were asking was what they would see inside the Colosseum, and the SUPER sites sit on the listing two lines below the part they were reading.
The trade-off: choosing the arena ticket means giving up levels 1 and 2 of the Colosseum for the SUPER sites and the floor. Whether that is a loss depends on which of the two you came to Rome for.
Buying both, and the comparison that matters
Six of the travelers asked whether to buy the 24h Colosseum ticket and the arena ticket together, usually after the
Full Experience tickets had sold out. Three more asked whether to add the arena ticket to an Attic ticket they already held.
The arithmetic is on the official site. Two €18 tickets are €36. The Full Experience ticket with entry to the arena is €24 and lists admission to the Colosseum, the arena, the Forum and Palatine area and the SUPER sites on one ticket. When it is available, it is cheaper than the pair and it is one entry instead of two.
Two tickets also mean two entrances. A guide who answers questions on YouTube told a viewer in August 2024 that the standard ticket goes in through one gate and the arena ticket through the other, so holding both means leaving the monument and entering again. One traveler who held an arena ticket and an underground ticket for the same day describes doing exactly that, with a break in between.
The trade-off: buying both is the fallback when the combined ticket is gone, and it costs more for a visit split in two. Before paying for the pair, check the Full Experience arena ticket again: travelers in the corpus report it going on sale later than the standard one.
When you can use the Forum part: three versions and one official line
Both tickets include the Forum and Palatine, and travelers do not agree on when that admission can be used.
| How they describe it | Travelers |
| 🕐 24 hours before or after the Colosseum time | 8 |
| ➡️ Within the 24 hours after it | 6 |
| 📅 By calendar day: the day before, the same day or the day after | 3 |
Statements found in reviews, Reddit and YouTube comments. They describe different years and different tickets, and they are not official rules.
“You have 24 hrs before or after your Colosseum entry time to enter the Roman Forum / Palatine Hill. Once inside, there is no re-entry.”
— YouTube comment, February 2025
“I went back the next day to look around and take in the Forum at a leisurely place and look at Palatine Hill. I was told my ticket wasn't valid”
— TripAdvisor, 2 stars, September 2025
That reviewer was on a
guided tour and had been told the ticket could be used the next day or the day after. Five accounts in the corpus are about a refused Forum entry, most of them a second entry on the same ticket; six describe going on a different day without a problem.
The listings for the two €18 tickets, as we read them in October 2026, do not state the window. The official wording we found is elsewhere: the page for the SUPER sites supplement says it must be bought for the same day or within 24 hours before or after the selected Colosseum booking time, and the Full Experience listings say the Forum admission is valid the day before, the same day or the day after the Colosseum visit. Those are two different rules for two different products.
The trade-off: the Forum admission is the flexible half of either ticket, and it is one entry. Read the validity printed on your own ticket before you plan a second day around it.
Common questions
❓ What is the difference between the 24h Colosseum, Roman Forum, Palatine ticket and 24H Only Arena?
Both are official tickets at €18. The first is standard admission to the Colosseum at a booked time, with the Forum and Palatine. The second is 20 minutes on the arena floor only, with the Forum, the Palatine and the SUPER sites. Neither includes the underground or the attic.
❓ Does 24H Only Arena include levels 1 and 2 of the Colosseum?
The official listing says arena floor only. A reply from the Colosseum help desk that a traveler posted in April 2025 says it does not include the first and second levels. Two travelers write that they saw no check that would have stopped them, and one reports being strictly stopped.
❓ Can I buy the standard 24h ticket and 24H Only Arena for the same day?
Travelers in the corpus have done it. It costs €36 against €24 for the Full Experience ticket with arena entry, and the two tickets use different entrances, so it is two entries rather than one visit.
❓ Does 24H Only Arena include the Roman Forum and the SUPER sites?
Yes on the official listing read in October 2026: one admission to the Roman Forum and Palatine area and entry to the SUPER sites. The standard 24h ticket includes the Forum and Palatine but not the SUPER sites, which are sold to its holders as a €4 supplement.
Author and Method
Research by Intercoper Curator Team. Evidence read and classified in October 2026.
From a corpus of 21,308 items about visiting the Colosseum, we pulled every item that names a 24-hour ticket or an arena-only ticket: 193 after removing duplicates. All of them were read, and each was classified by hand. Fewer than half bore on the questions in this article. The counts in this article come from what was left: 23 travelers asking about the arena ticket on Reddit and YouTube between May 2024 and August 2026, eight travelers describing a visit with it, and 17 stating when the Forum admission can be used.
These are counts of accounts we read, not rates. People who post a question or a complaint are not a sample of everyone who buys a ticket, and eight visits cannot tell you how often the arena ticket disappoints. Where an account is a single case, the text says so.
Prices and inclusions were read on the official ticketing site of the Parco archeologico del Colosseo on October 9, 2026. They are the part of this article that expires: ticket names, prices, what each one includes and how long it stays valid are set by the park and have changed before.
What we could not confirm: how strictly the 20 minutes on the arena floor are enforced, whether an arena ticket holder can continue into the rest of the Colosseum, and which gate each ticket uses. Those points are reported as travelers and one help desk reply describe them, with their dates.
